CEFUROXIME AXETIL

Cefuroxime axetil is an antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections in various parts of the body. It is a second-generation cephalosporin and works by stopping the growth of bacteria. 

Common uses of cefuroxime axetil include:

• Respiratory tract infections: This covers infections of the lungs (such as pneumonia), throat (including tonsillitis and pharyngitis), and sinuses (sinusitis).
• Ear infections (otitis media): Studies have shown that cefuroxime is effective in treating acute ear infections in children, with similar efficacy to amoxicillin-clavulanate but with fewer side effects.
• Lyme disease: Cefuroxime is a proven treatment for early Lyme disease in both adults and children, with effectiveness comparable to doxycycline.
• Skin and soft tissue infections: It is used for bacterial infections of the skin and underlying soft tissues, including cellulitis caused by susceptible bacteria like Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pyogenes. It can also treat impetigo and wound infections.
Urinary tract infections (UTIs): Cefuroxime is used to treat UTIs and has shown to be an effective treatment for uncomplicated UTIs, especially those caused by beta-lactamase-producing bacteria.Gonorrhea: In some cases, a single dose of cefuroxime is used to treat this sexually transmitted disease.Prevention of infection during surgery: It is also used to prevent infections that may occur after a surgical procedure.Meningitis: Cefuroxime can be used to treat meningitis caused by susceptible bacteria such as Neisseria meningitidis, Haemophilus influenzae, and Streptococcus pneumoniae.
